Remelia

Exam guide Two schools

Bolton School — Senior (Year 7) Entrance Examination, Boys’ and Girls’ Divisions

The 2 schools share one test: set by GL Assessment (inferred from the pages, which do not name it outright), taken on paper. It tests non-verbal reasoning, maths and English.

Who sits it. Children in Year 6, for a place in Year 7 in September 2027: sat in January 2027 (inferred).

Checked against the sources below on 22 September 2026. Dates and arrangements change: the schools’ own admissions pages are always the final word.

How Remelia helps with this test

What Remelia covers, in full

Covered

  • Maths
  • English
  • Reading
  • Non-verbal reasoning
  • The last fortnight

Not covered

  • The interview
  • The test itself
  • English papers in this test’s style

Each exam plan is dated from your child’s year group: Remelia works to the sitting for the September they start Year 7. For a school without a plan, choose “Not sure yet” and Remelia teaches the Key Stage 2 curriculum with no exam date.

Key dates

When it is sat.

The dates the schools have published, in order. Where a day is not yet published, the guide says so.

  1. January 2027 Inferred

For Year 7 in September 2027, sat in Year 6. Inferred: the page does not give this date in so many words. Source
The FAQ still gives the 2026-entry date (Thursday 15 January 2026, both divisions); the January 2027 date is not yet published. Applications open in September.

  2. Not yet published

For Year 7 in September 2028, sat in Year 6. The date is not on the pages read. Source

Remelia and this exam

What Remelia covers, and what it does not.

Choose any of these schools when you set your child up, or later in Controls, and this is the plan.

What Remelia covers

Key Stage 2 maths and English to Year 6, and non-verbal reasoning, counted towards the exam.

  • Maths

The Key Stage 2 objectives for Years 3 to 6, in the order your child’s school teaches them, counted towards the exam.

  • English

Grammar, punctuation, spelling and vocabulary questions most days, Years 3 to 6, counted towards the exam.

  • Reading

From the autumn of Year 5, a weekly reading day: one unseen passage and 9 questions on it, from a bank of 130 passages.

  • Non-verbal reasoning

13 question types from the providers’ own sample material (shape series and grids, pairs, similarities, odd one out, codes, rotation, reflection, hidden shapes, folding and punching, and nets), each a drawing with five options, mixed into the sessions and counted towards the exam. The types a test sets can differ from year to year, and from provider to provider.

  • The last fortnight

In the last 14 days before the exam date the plan works to, sessions are shorter and nothing new is introduced. The plan works to January of Year 6, a month inferred from the pages; until the schools publish the day for your child’s year, that date is an estimate.

Not covered

The interview and the test’s own format.

  • The interview

A conversation with the school, which an app cannot practise.

  • The test itself

Remelia practises the content, not GL Assessment’s own screens, papers or timings: the familiarisation materials, where there are any, show those.

  • English papers in this test’s style

The printable English practice papers in the parents’ app are in the style of the FSCE test’s multiple-choice paper, not GL Assessment’s own.

The schools

Two schools, one test.

Each school takes its own applications and decides its own offers. Places are as each school’s page gives them, where it does.

The exam

What the schools say.

Each line links to the page it comes from. A line marked Inferred is read from the page, which does not say it in so many words; the note under it says how.
