What the school says

When
Each January, for entry the following September. For September 2027 entry the exam is on Friday 15 January 2027. Later dates are not yet published. Source
The online assessment
Provided by Quest Assessments. Five parts: maths (20 minutes), non-verbal reasoning (10), English (30), puzzles and problem-solving (15) and creative comprehension (20): 95 minutes in a two-hour slot with short breaks. The English part asks about reading comprehension, spelling, punctuation and grammar. Source
On the screen
Most questions are multiple choice; a few ask for a single typed word or number, and there is no long typing. The maths and non-verbal reasoning parts adapt, getting harder or easier, and do not allow going back. The school provides the device, scrap paper is allowed, calculators are not. Source
The written paper
A 30-minute written English paper, alongside the online test. It takes the form of the writing section of the school’s practice papers, not the reading section. Source
The interview
A short interview with a member of the Senior School academic team. Source
What it is based on
The English comprehension and maths questions, and the writing, are based on the English National Curriculum within Key Stage 2. The other exercises are designed to show ability and creative thinking. Source
How to register
Through the school’s online registration form, no later than one week before the exam. The school asks your child’s current school for a reference. Source
Results and offers
After the reference arrives, the Head of School writes to offer a place. The date offers are sent is not published, nor is the number of places. Source
Familiarisation
The admissions page links to Quest’s sample of the assessment and to an FAQ, and has practice papers (two maths, four English) that show the level of the questions but not the format of the exam. Source

How Remelia helps with the 11+

The maths and the English, in full and counted towards the exam; the written paper and the puzzles and problem-solving, in part. Not covered: non-verbal reasoning, creative comprehension and the interview.

What Remelia covers

  • Maths

The Key Stage 2 objectives for Years 3 to 6, including the harder Year 6 topics, all counted towards the exam.

  • English

Grammar, punctuation, spelling and vocabulary questions most days, Years 3 to 6, counted towards the exam: the English section asks reading comprehension, spelling, punctuation and grammar.

  • Reading

From the autumn of Year 5, a weekly reading day: one unseen passage and 9 questions on it, from a bank of 130 passages.

  • The written English paper In part

Short timed writing pieces that a grown-up marks at home with ticks: one a fortnight from the spring of Year 4, one a week from the autumn of Year 5. They practise part of what the paper asks; they are not the school’s paper, and they are not counted towards the exam.

  • Puzzles and problem-solving In part

The maths puzzles and problem-solving strategies practise some of what this part of the assessment asks.

  • The last fortnight

In the last 14 days before the exam date the plan works to, sessions are shorter and nothing new is introduced. Until the school publishes the day, that date is an estimate.

Not covered

  • Non-verbal reasoning

Remelia does not teach non-verbal reasoning.

  • Creative comprehension

    Not practised.

  • The interview

A conversation with the school, which an app cannot practise.
