Exam guide 34 schools

Kent Test (Kent PESE 11+)

The 34 schools share one test: set by GL Assessment, taken on paper. It tests English, reading comprehension, spelling, punctuation and grammar, maths, verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, spatial reasoning and a piece of writing.

Who sits it. Children in Year 6, for a place in Year 7 in September 2028: the date is not yet published.

Checked against the sources below on 29 September 2026. Dates and arrangements change: the schools’ own admissions pages are always the final word.

Remelia and this exam

What Remelia covers, and what it does not.

Choose any of these schools when you set your child up, or later in Controls, and this is the plan.

What Remelia covers

Key Stage 2 maths and English to the end of Year 5, and verbal and non-verbal reasoning, counted towards the exam; the writing, in part.

  • Maths

The Key Stage 2 objectives for Years 3 to 5, in the order your child’s school teaches them, counted towards the exam.

  • English

Grammar, punctuation, spelling and vocabulary questions most days, Years 3 to 5, counted towards the exam.

  • Reading

From the autumn of Year 5, a weekly reading day: one unseen passage and 9 questions on it, from a bank of 130 passages.

  • Verbal reasoning

21 of the question types in GL Assessment’s verbal reasoning familiarisation papers (letter and number series, codes, logic puzzles, word puzzles and word meanings), mixed into the sessions and counted towards the exam. The types a test sets can differ from year to year.

  • Non-verbal reasoning

13 question types from the providers’ own sample material (shape series and grids, pairs, similarities, odd one out, codes, rotation, reflection, hidden shapes, folding and punching, and nets), each a drawing with five options, mixed into the sessions and counted towards the exam. The types a test sets can differ from year to year, and from provider to provider.

  • The writing In part

Short timed pieces that a grown-up marks at home with ticks: one a fortnight from the spring of Year 4, one a week from the autumn of Year 5. They practise part of what the exam’s writing asks; they are not its paper, and they are not counted towards the exam.

  • The last fortnight

In the last 14 days before the exam date the plan works to, sessions are shorter and nothing new is introduced. The plan works to September of Year 6; until the schools publish the day for your child’s year, that date is an estimate.

Not covered

Spatial reasoning, a written paper: writing exercise, 40 minutes, not marked and the test’s own format.

  • Spatial reasoning

Remelia does not teach spatial reasoning.

  • A written paper: writing exercise, 40 minutes, not marked

    Not practised.

  • The test itself

Remelia practises the content, not GL Assessment’s own screens, papers or timings: the familiarisation materials, where there are any, show those.

  • English papers in this test’s style

The printable English practice papers in the parents’ app are in the style of the FSCE test’s multiple-choice paper, not GL Assessment’s own.

The schools

34 schools, one test.

Each school takes its own applications and decides its own offers. Places are as each school’s page gives them, where it does.

The exam

What the schools say.

Each line links to the page it comes from. A line marked Inferred is read from the page, which does not say it in so many words; the note under it says how.

How places are decided
A standardised score at or above a threshold. Three age-standardised scores (English, maths, reasoning) and an aggregate. The grammar threshold is set each year after the test: for the September 2025 sitting (2026 entry) it was an aggregate of 332 or more with no single score below 108 (scores 69–141, maximum 423). The threshold for the 2026 sitting is published in October 2026. Children below it can still be assessed suitable by the Headteacher Assessment Panel (HTA) on referral by their primary head. Interview Inferred
No. Source Source
The Kent Test process described by KCC has no interview; the HTA panel reviews work, not the child.
What has changed Inferred
No change of provider announced on the admissions page read on 29 Sep 2026 (MM-868); the page does not give the provider history, so a change before 2023 cannot be ruled out from it. Source
