The King’s School, Chester: the Year 7 entrance exam (Quest)
King’s Chester admits to Year 7 by an exam each January of Year 6: an online assessment from Quest Assessments, and a 30-minute written English paper.

- Each January, for entry the following September. For September 2027 entry the exam is on Friday 15 January 2027; for September 2029 entry, expect January 2029.
- The online assessment
- Provided by Quest Assessments. It covers English comprehension, maths and non-verbal reasoning, creative comprehension, and puzzles and problems.
- The written paper
- A 30-minute written English paper, alongside the online test.
- What it is based on
- The English comprehension and maths questions, and the writing, are based on the English National Curriculum within Key Stage 2. The other exercises are designed to show ability and creative thinking.
